About Stories

Stories is a purpose-led property development company, and a certified B Corp. We partner with landowners and investors as principal developer, development manager and strategic advisor on projects that have a higher purpose than just financial returns.

We are progressing a number of exciting, high profile projects, including:

We are also growing our pipeline through a £100m joint venture with Aviva Capital Partners, and are in advanced discussions on multiple new schemes, with an ambition to secure a further 4-5 major projects over the next few years.

Coming from different property backgrounds, we set up Stories so we could use our development skills to create positive outcomes for people.

We’re currently a team of ten – the three Co-founders, one Development Director, four Senior Development Managers an Assistant Development Manager, a team administrator (and a dog) – and we have a rotating Advisory Board comprising some of our industry’s most experienced individuals.

What matters most to us is finding somebody that really cares about people, knows that property development can be a positive force for change and can bring a fresh perspective to what we are trying to achieve.

Job Description

We are hiring for Development Graduate to support our growing project pipeline and development team.

This is a learning-focused, entry-level role for someone with a university-level degree and a strong interest in property development. You will work under the guidance of a Senior Development Manager or one of the Co-founders to support the day-to-day work of our development team. You will be expected to ‘dive straight in’ and will quickly be taking on significant responsibility and growing your role.

You’ll have the chance to gain hands-on experience across all aspects of the development process – from feasibility and planning through to construction – and develop the skills and confidence needed to grow within the industry.

We’re not expecting you to know everything. We are looking for someone who’s proactive, organised, a great communicator and eager to learn. Prior work experience in property is not a requirement. Equally, we welcome applications from people who may be wishing to change careers, or are early in their property career.

If you can see the opportunity to make positive change in people’s lives through property development, we want to hear from you.

We’d love to hear from people who have:

  • Genuine and demonstrable interest in development and the built environment.

  • Desire to work in a purpose-led property development business with a strong social and environmental ethos.

  • A willingness to get stuck in and work flexibly as part of a growing company, with the confidence to ask questions and try new things.

  • Clear and confident communication – both written and verbal.

  • A university-level degree (all subjects are welcome)

  • A proactive attitude and willingness to support others

  • An ability to manage multiple tasks and stay organised

  • Good attention to detail and curiosity about how things work

You will also need to bring an open mind to help us do projects differently, support the wider team and help us build this business. Perhaps through curiosity, sometimes through necessity, you will find yourself expanding your experience substantially.

Some attributes that we think are important:

  1. An engaging person – kind, thoughtful, hard-working, strong integrity and interested in the world and other people.

  2. Problem solving aptitude – the ability to creatively problem solve in new situations, big or small.

  3. Strategic thinking – absorbing large amounts of information, working out what matters, and formulating (or helping to formulate) a plan to move things forward.

  4. A self starter – somebody who takes the initiative, sets and communicates a plan or takes an idea and runs with it. These individuals tend to thrive in less structured environments.

  5. Equally comfortable with big visions and detailed numbers – competence in both and a willingness to do it yourself.

  6. Good at communicating – experience of successfully conveying information to a diverse audience, both in writing and in person.

  7. A good collaborator – as well as working individually, possessing a good team work ethic is important internally and externally.

  8. Curiosity – whether about the world, their job, or someone else’s; we find curious people make excellent members of the team at Stories.

Responsibilities

This will never be an exhaustive list. We are a small but growing business. Sometimes we are pitching to major institutions, sometimes we’re having important funding meetings, sometimes we’re making the tea. To an extent, you will carve out your own particular role and help us to grow the company together. We hope you find this an exciting prospect.

Core Project responsibilities

• Supporting the Senior Development Manager or Co-founders on the delivery of one or more development projects

• Helping coordinate internal project teams and external consultants

• Preparing project documentation, reports and presentations

• Supporting the planning process, including helping to coordinate submissions and public consultation

• Attending project meetings and taking minutes or follow-up actions

• Assisting with development appraisals and financial models in Excel

• Coordinating information required for legal agreements and contracts

• Helping to organise and participate in community engagement activity

• Supporting stakeholder engagement and managing communications

• Supporting project administration and coordination, from feasibility to completion

• Completing structured and independent learning alongside your role

Application Process

We’re asking all applicants to submit a CV, one page covering letter and a short video (maximum 5 minutes).

Your cover letter should introduce yourself, why you are applying for the role and why you think you would be a good fit.

Please include the following in your video:

  1. Why you are applying for this role and what interests you about Stories.

  2. Why you think you would be able to effectively support our projects, with particular consideration to ‘what we’re looking for’.

  3. An academic or career success you are particularly proud of.

  4. What you think makes a great development project.

You do not need to make a polished or highly produced video — a simple recording on your phone or laptop is perfect.

Please send your CV, cover letter and video (or a link to your video) to people@stories.partners

There is no fixed deadline. We will keep the job open until we find the right person, but we encourage you to apply as soon as you’re ready to give yourself the best chance.
