Hi, I'm
Mark.
Coming from a family of Architects, I’ve always been passionate about the built environment and how great design can positively impact people’s wellbeing. Growing up, I often found myself exploring my dad’s studio, playing with architectural models, or wandering around Belfast with my grandfather, who taught me how to sketch buildings.
This early exposure inspired me to pursue a career as an Architect, and I qualified in 2013. Throughout my time in the field, I had the privilege of working on some great projects, including the Glasgow School of Art with JM Architects and Steven Holl Architects, and the Circle Square development with Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios, among many others. However, I soon realised that there was more to creating exceptional spaces than just the design process.
That realisation led me to expand my experience beyond the traditional Architect role. I first joined Berkeley Homes as a site-based Technical Coordinator, where I gained hands-on insight into how main contractors operate and the meticulous effort required to build quality homes. Later, I became a Consultant Project Manager for GVA, which exposed me to the entire development process, from land acquisition to construction, and taught me how to effectively manage large, multidisciplinary teams to achieve a common goal.
In January 2020, I decided to take some time off to travel the world and reconnect with my love of exploration. Although the pandemic cut my plans short, I did manage to spend two months in India and two weeks in Vietnam, during which I completed a 10-day silent retreat involving 100 hours of meditation—a profound and challenging experience.
During this period, I had time to reflect on my career and future direction. I realised I wanted to focus not only on designing beautiful buildings but also on creating developments that genuinely benefit the communities they serve. This realisation led me to join Pocket Living, a socially conscious developer. There, I helped deliver three projects, providing over 300 affordable homes for local residents. Seeing the joy on people’s faces as they moved into their new homes was incredibly rewarding.
That experience ultimately brought me to Stories. When I spoke with James, Paul, and Richard, it was clear that they shared my passion for creating spaces where people can live, work, and thrive. I’m excited to contribute to the team and help bring these shared visions to life.
