Two weeks at Stories

During my enriching two-week work placement at Stories, I had the privilege of diving into the world of socially responsible property development. Stories, a company deeply committed to creating long-term sustainable value, has a vision that extends far beyond the realms of traditional real estate. They embrace humility, open-mindedness, and a holistic approach that balances economic, environmental, and social outcomes, creating a refreshing perspective on property development.

To begin, Stories places a strong emphasis on first-hand experience with their projects. During my time with the company, I had the privilege of accompanying the team on a series of site visits, encompassing various projects not only within London but also further afield.

One notable aspect of this experience was our tour of several Build-to-Rent schemes in London, including Dolphin’s One Church Square Social Housing, Ikea’s Stratford New Town development, and the luxurious Westfield Stratford development. These projects, each possessing its distinctive character, provided valuable insights into the nuances of property development. The exposure allowed me to discern what strategies were effective and what aspects required refinement, knowledge that I am are eager to apply to future projects.

Furthermore, I had the opportunity to partake in an exciting excursion to the Canada Water regeneration scheme by British Land. The scale and ambition of this initiative were truly awe-inspiring. Witnessing the potential transformation of urban spaces into vibrant, sustainable communities left an indelible impression on me.

I spent a day at Mansfield College, Oxford, where I gained a comprehensive understanding of the project. This encompassed interactions with various stakeholders, an assessment of spatial constraints, and an appreciation of the unique ambiance of the area.

Lastly, I was warmly welcomed into Stories' strategy meetings, where I witnessed the power of collective decision-making. Their commitment to inclusivity and the integration of diverse perspectives truly impressed me. It reinforced the belief that successful developments are built upon the contributions of a diverse range of people.

My time at Stories underscored the importance of balancing economic prosperity, environmental responsibility, and social impact in the realm of property development. Stories has not only embraced this ethos but has made it the core of their mission. It's clear to me that their projects are more than just bricks and mortar; they are catalysts for positive change.

I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside the passionate and forward-thinking team at Stories. I'm excited to carry these insights with me as I continue on my journey in the world of real estate and development.
