Mansfield College, University of Oxford
Among the newest and smallest of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford but demonstrably one of the most progressive and inclusive, we have partnered with Mansfield College to help deliver a transformational vision for the future through refurbishment, repurposing and redevelopment of the College estate.
Mansfield College occupies one of the most attractive sites in Oxford, close to all the libraries and shops, yet in a quiet position near to the University parks and River Cherwell. The late nineteenth-century buildings, which house the College’s main public rooms, are regarded as amongst the finest work of the important Victorian architect, Basil Champneys.
Mansfield provides a progressive, informal environment, in which tutors and students work together to achieve academic excellence and sustain a supportive and lively community.
Stories has been appointed by Mansfield to deliver a once in a lifetime evolution of the college estate to help them better cater for their students, academics and staff, now and into the future.
The College’s estate development campaign, based on the three pillars of people, place and culture, seeks to improve the living, teaching and operational efficiency of the College, having a direct, positive impact on the experience of its students, academics, staff and visitors. It also presents the opportunity to provide much needed additional accommodation and facilities, through both new build and the significant enhancement and refurbishment to existing heritage buildings. Proposals include the creation of approximately 200 student bedrooms, a new Porters’ Lodge and College entrance, teaching and learning facilities, and social spaces for students.

In delivering this extensive project as part of Mansfield College's team, we will be drawing on a range of experience:
Strategic visioning and masterplan
Economic analysis and business case
Extensive stakeholder engagement
Educational buildings, including student accommodation, staff spaces and ancillary amenities
Heritage buildings
