Hello, I'm Mark
I’ve always believed that architecture is, above all else, a social art form – it’s about people, their stories, and the emotional connections we form with the places we inhabit. My journey began at the Sheffield School of Architecture, where I first came to understand the power of design not just as a technical craft, but as a meaningful, human-centred process.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with incredibly talented individuals and teams on a diverse range of projects – from product design and small-scale public interventions to new-build timber frame homes, Georgian house extensions, and refurbishments at IDE-Architecture. I also worked on larger-scale educational and civic projects with Aedas London, including Holland Park School and the innovative Al Bahr Towers in Abu Dhabi, where we developed a dynamic, solar-responsive façade that went on to win the CTBUH 2012 Innovation Award.
I then spent 12 inspiring years at Argent (later Related Argent), helping to shape transformational developments across London. I was proud to be part of the Google HQ development team at King’s Cross before leading major office developments in the northern part of the estate. Most recently, I led the regeneration scheme at Tottenham Hale in North London – a complex project aiming to deliver over 1,000 new homes, a doctor’s surgery, retail premises, significant infrastructure improvements, and a series of new public spaces. Central to the project was a partnership formed with Haringey Council. It’s a development I’m immensely proud of – one that taught me a great deal and allowed me to build lasting relationships with many gifted and enthusiastic people.
For me, working in the built environment is about creating buildings and spaces that reflect the richness of human experience and foster emotional connections to place. In a world where change itself is the predominant economic driving force, we are constantly challenged by technology to be anywhere, anytime, while as people, constantly yearn to be somewhere, sometime. I believe we have a responsibility to design with depth and sophistication, engaging the more subtle aspects of human psychology and experience. Our role is to help create the frameworks in which this can happen and to guide conversations with those on the journey – crafting environments that actually respond to how people feel, think, and live.
Outside of work, I love drawing, playing tennis for my local club, and, when the mood strikes, going for the occasional run! I’m also proud to serve as a board member of Haringey Giving, supporting local initiatives and grassroots change in an area of North London that has become very important to me.
Joining Stories is a hugely exciting step. I’m deeply grateful for all the experiences that have shaped my journey so far – and even more excited to be part of a team that genuinely places social purpose at its core. It’s going to be fun!
